March 2018 has proven a disastrous one for Facebooks worldwide reputation, with the suspension of Cambridge Analytica’s parent company “Strategic Communication laboratories” from using any further data supplied to them by Facebook.
With the Canadian freelance developer turned whistle-blower Christopher Wylie, giving evidence to the UK Parliamentary committee this week, he has claimed the misuse of raw data supplied by Facebook may have contributed to the Leave Brexit victory. His claim is based upon the fact that the Cambridge Analytica database was used by the Brexit leave campaign in targeting certain voters within the UK, to push across their messages.
Mark Zuckerberg has been asked to appear in front of the UK parliamentary committee but has so far refused, instead he has offered to send chief officer Mike Schroepfer or chief product officer Chris Cox.
