Google promoting secure sites

From the archive, 2018

This is an older article from our archive. Some details may have changed since it was written.

Like it or not the mobile phone and tablet have become part of our fabric of our lives. More than half the worlds population now have access to the internet and communicate regularly on social media with friends, family and business. The mobile phone has become an essential piece of equipment that has changed many peoples lives for the better, even in some of the remotest parts of the world

UK businesses receive most of their enquiries through a smart phone or tablet, either via a phone call, email or contact form on their website. Nowadays businesses receive enquiries 24/7 as their website is always available for people to make contact. So how do you get more enquiries and ensure visitors to your site feel safe?

Site security and identity protection have been in the news a lot over the last couple of years and there have been two major moves to make websites more secure. The first is GDPR which is an EU initiative to ensure that people’s personal information is not shared or sold on to others. Websites that have a contact form should be GDPR compliant with a relevant privacy statement attached to their website and a two-step contact form ensuring that they are happy to give their consent to the company contacting them.

The second is the introduction of an SSL security certificate which is a method of certification providing a green padlock indicator to the site showing it is secure ‘https’. Google now promotes sites that are secure. Chrome, Safari and Firefox actively warn potential visitors to a site they want to visit that it may be unsecure if there is not an SSL Certificate attached to it. Installing an SSL or green padlock certificate on your website proves to your potential customers that they are in a safe browsing area.

An attractive website that is easy to navigate is only part of website design. Search Engine Optimization is essential if you want your website to be found above all the thousands of other sites that are available. There is much more to a website than the images you see on the screen, the really important stuff is what happens behind the scenes coding your site so that the web crawlers match you with a relevant search term typed into Google.

If you are looking to generate business from your website or receive more local enquiries and want help to move your website up the organic search rankings local search engine optimization in Hammersmith could be the way forward.
